New Traditions

My favorite part of Christmas is to be with the family God have provided (My husband, our sons), my husband’s family, my parents, my sisters, my Sister’s family, if we are able to see our exchange kids (is an extra treat).

No matter where we are, we try to go to service. After that if we are in USA we go to my parents house, my dad reads the bible, we pray, we enjoy a nice dinner (like when I was child), we wait until midnight to then open one gift. We usually head home a little past midnight.

My husband is born and raise in the United States, hence we adopted the tradition of opening presents Christmas Day (If we are in USA) everyone comes to our home with their PJ’s (Well everyone except my dad, he dresses fancy all the time). We have some paneton with hot chocolate and the time to open presents is here!

Back on the days when our kids were made time to spent with my husband’s family and my family. A couple of years ago, my mother because of love passed away, hence my father because of love joins the celebrations when we are in the USA.

I like the fact that my husband and I have combined our traditions. I also appreciate that my husband and our children are flexible. There were times were we didnt do the traditional things because we are out of town, we maybe in another country, we do gifts, we dont do gifts, etc.

Other things that we do now that I didn’t do when I was in Peru (when I was a child)

–       Family pictures / Christmas Cards: not extremely consistent about it, yet we do them often

–       When in our town: Find the houses with the nicest lights to enjoy the view and the work done

This year, the service for Christmas Eve will be online. this year my dad will work on Christmas Day, this year we are not traveling to meet my sister and her family… this year Christ remains our Lord and Savior, He remains King of Kings, Lord of Lords, He remains Emmanuel.

Nuevas tradiciones

Mi parte favorita de la Navidad es estar con la familia que Dios ha provisto (mi esposo, nuestros hijos), la familia de mi amado, mis padres, mis hermanas, la familia de mi hermana, si podemos ver a nuestros hijos de intercambio internacional (es un regalo extra).

No importa dónde estemos, intentamos ir al servicio de nochebuena. Después de eso, si estamos en EE. UU. Vamos a la casa de mis padres, mi papá lee la Biblia, oramos, disfrutamos de una buena cena (como cuando era niña), esperamos hasta la medianoche para abrir un regalo. Por lo general, nos dirigimos a casa un poco después de la medianoche.

Mi esposo nació y se crió en los Estados Unidos, por eso adoptamos la tradición de abrir regalos el día de Navidad (si estamos en Estados Unidos), todos vienen a nuestra casa con sus pijamas (bueno, todos excepto mi papá, él se viste elegante todo el tiempo). Tenemos paneton con chocolate caliente y ha llegado el momento de abrir los regalos!

En los días en que nuestros hijos eran pequeños, visitabamos primero a la familia de mi esposo, luego a mi familia. Hace un par de años falleció mi suegra, desde ese entonces, mi suegro se una a las celebraciones cuando estemos en USA.

Me gusta el hecho de que mi esposo y yo hayamos combinado nuestras tradiciones. También aprecio que mi esposo y nuestros hijos sean flexibles. Hubo momentos en los que no hacíamos las cosas tradicionales porque estábamos fuera de la ciudad, quizás en otro país, con regalos, sin regalos, etc.

Otras cosas que hacemos ahora que no hacía cuando en Peru (de niña)

–       Fotos familiares / Tarjetas de Navidad: no somos extremadamente consistentes al respecto, pero las hacemos a menudo

–       Cuando en nuestra ciudad: Vamos en busca de las casas con las mejores decoraciones (luces) para disfrutar de la vista y del trabajo realizado

Este año, el servicio de Nochebuena sera por el internet. este año mi papá trabajará el día de Navidad, este año no viajaremos para encontrarnos con mi hermana y su familia … este año Cristo sigue siendo nuestro Señor y Salvador, sigue siendo Rey de Reyes, Señor de Señores, sigue siendo Emmanuel.
